Did you know: People in the UK throw away around 295 billion pieces of plastic every year, much of which is single-use and cannot be recycled!!
In an ever growing environmentally conscious world, we need to ensure we are doing what we can to reduce plastic waste and recycle properly. Unfortunately most goods in supermarkets come in single use plastic packaging - although some brands are moving towards biodegradable packaging in an attempt to help and give consumers the option to be as environmentally conscious as possible.
But as always, a little goes a long way and it's the small changes we make that can create a lasting impact.
Last week I went home for the weekend, and when I opened the fridge I noticed something that made me go "WOW, my mum is actually a genius!". Although I know this has come from her 'super-organised' gene, it's also a brilliant idea for making use of plastic packaging.
She re-uses plastic trays in which fruit and veg come in by laying them out as storage boxes in the fridge drawer. Not only does this organise your fruit and veg and make everything easily accessible and neat, it's also a way in which we can recycle these trays so we're not producing so much plastic waste.
You can even use these instead of buying tupperware to store your prepared veg - all you need to do it cover it with some foil (which is also recyclable).
I hope this has helped shed some light on the many small ways we can help our environment and recycle/reuse where possible! As I said, it's the small steps you take that matters!
